Q: How does ezetimibe (Zetia/Ezetrol) increase HDL-C?
Ezetemibe, which is a cholesterol lowering medication, and is marketed with the brand names of Zetia or Ezetrol, lowers blood cholesterol by inhibiting its intestinal absorption by acting on Niemann-Pick C1Like1 (NPC1L1) in the intestinal brush border. Ezetimibe causes a decrease in LDL-C.
