Q: Aciphex medication……….?
How long does it take aciphex medication to kick in? I’m in a lot of discomfort so I’m curious thanks!

A: Aciphex is strong medication and most people are prescribed only one dose a day. If it is not working for you, call your doctor and s/he should be able to give something different–equally strong, but that fits you.

See a gastroenterologist and have x-rays they recommend done. If you have an ulcer, it will show. Don’t let it go on. Other things mask themselves as heartburn too. t

Q: Is vomiting a side affect of taking Aciphex, and should you stop taking the medication after 4 months?

A: Yes, vomiting and nausea can be side effects related to the Aciphex

As for when to discontinue use, your best bet would be to consult your doctor – he/she can determine whether the medication has fully served its purpose, or whether there are other options/medications that may not cause those unpleasant side effects.

Happy Health!

Q: If Aciphex is the only thing that works but is too expensive?
My husband is currently taking Aciphex, the best thing he has found to help his GERD. Unfortunately we aren’t able to afford the prescription. Just wondering if anyone knows the next best medication he can take that won’t be as expensive.

A: You can try OTC Prilosec. It is just as effective as Rx Aciphex.
Prevacid will be going OTC by the end of the year.

Q: I am breastfeeding mother and on medication. Is it safe for my baby?
I am having chronic peptic ulcer disease and Doctor has given me Aciphex and Tylenol #3. I am avoiding to feed my 61/2 months old daughter. But she is not ready to eat formula with bottle, juicy cup and etc. I have tried with everything. But she eats formula when I mix it with cereals.
She needs breastmilk in the night and if I don’t give her she cries badly. So I feed her once at night. I just want to know that how harmful are the drugs for my baby, because I fed her 4 times after taking those medicines.

A: honey, the only person that can safely answer that question for you is your pediatrician. Not your dr. unless they deal with children, but you need to ask your baby’s dr and they should be able to tell you. You could try asking a pharmacist as well…sometimes they can help you with stuff like this. Until you talk to someone, do NOT take your medication if you’re going to breast feed because you could be hurting your baby.
good luck!

Q: I was diagnosed with an ulcer a couple of years ago. It has stopped responding to medication.?
It hurts constantly. I take Aciphex, OTC Pepcid, Tagamet and Zantac and TUMS. Nothing helps. I have talked to my doctor who said that this is just part of having an ulcer. It is not h. pylori–I was tested. Any ideas, or similar experiences?

A: Talk to your doctor about Nexium. It’s a medication that repairs the lining of your stomach over about a month or so and that should help with your pain. It can be pretty expensive and difficult to get authorized by insurances, so ask your doctor if they have any samples that you can try for a month or so. If you find that it works for you, then you can see about getting your insurance to pay for it. If it helps you then the cost might just be worth it.

Q: Can medicine effect the results of a pregnancy test?
I was just wondering if any of the medication that I’m taking can effect the test.
I got my period the same day i started taking my medicine, my period ended really early so i took a test today but I’m still taking my medication.
I’m taking:
Azithromycin, Aciphex, Loratadine, and Midol

Thank you very much for your help =)

A: In general there are no medications that will effect the results of your pregnancy test- either positive or negative. The only medictaions really known to cause false results, false positives imparticular, are those medications containing hCG. These drugs are used in conjunction with infertility treatments. In these cases your doctor or fertility center will tell you not to take a pregnancy test until these medications have cleared your system.

Birth control pills and other forms of birth control do not effect the results of a pregnancy test urine or blood.

Q: *sigh* Even I can’t figure this out. Nausea and no appetite – new medication.
So for the last two days, but most prominently yesterday and today (today especially) I have been feeling kind of off. I’ve had little to no appetite and have been nauseous. I haven’t thrown up, and normal medications I take for upset stomach last not nearly as long as they usually do. When I do feel kind of hungry, I can only eat a little bit at a time. All I’ve eaten today is ten potato munchers, a piece of banana creme pie, and about 3/4 of a pizza sub, and It’s 6PM and I’ve been up since 9AM. I’ve also had a glass of Apple Juice (which made me a bit nauseous) and some water with Apple Cider Vinegar, which helped a little bit.

Now all I need to know is if this could be attributed to a new medication I’ve been on lately called Aciphex. I read it can cause nausea and increased or decreased appetite. I started taking the pill Wednesday, and the problem has been going (and growing) since Thursday. Could this pill be what’s causing my problems?

I also have allergies which sometimes cause me problems, but I don’t remember them ever being this bad. The nausea is not as bad as I’ve had before, I have had worse. All I want to know is if this pill could be causing this problem.

(Also, this is embarrassing… I went down of my girlfriend for the first time today. Will this make me sick?)

I am a hypochondriac, so I’m probably overreacting to all this, but any help would be appreciated.

A: I’m not sure about the new pills. If they say they can cause those symptoms, then it’s most likely your culprit.

Honey, I can assure you, if you are in a monogamous relationship with your girl, there is virtually NO way you can get sick from eating her out.

Whatever you do, don’t stop! Not enough guys in the world get anywhere NEAR enough practice doing that!

:-D

Q: Question about AcipHex…?
I’m looking for a new acid reflux medication. I’m on Protonix right now, but it doesn’t work, it makes it worse. does AcipHex work? Is there an age limit?

Oh and my doctor won’t give me Nexium for some reason.

A: there is a class of medications called proton pump inhibitors. aciphex, protonix, nexium, prilosec… they are all in that class and work pretty much the same way. however, everyone responds to everything in a different way. if protonix isn’t working, the best thing is to try another drug from the same class. the basic rule is find the one that works for the patient. ask him why he won’t give you nexium. maybe it’s because it is tier-3 nonformulary on many RX plans. but he should have an answer for you.

as for do things work or not work… i don’t know how many of the other responders know anything about the pharmaceutical industry, but the companies have to go through YEARS of clinical trials to prove that the meds do work. so yeah, they all work. they just might not all work for each person. like i said, try each med in the class until you find the one that works for you!

Q: anyone taking/taken aciphex??
about 2 months ago i was told that i have acid reflux. no heartburn, just a lot of flem in my throat all the time. it never goes away. i cant swallow it down. i was on prevacid for two months and i saw no change. my doctor just prescribed me aciphex which is stronger. has anyone had any bad side effects or reactions because of taking this medication?

A: i was prescribed aciphex about 2 months ago. I had the same symptoms as you and was prescribed aciphex. I am 21 years old and the side effects it gave me made me feel like i was losing my mind. Depression, anxiety, blurred vision, migranes, the chills, panic attacks chest pressure. I went back to the doctors and they took me off the medication. They had to give me vistral for my side effects. Its a muscle relaxer and mild sedative. Then for my stomach they put me on zantac and i feel alot better. I will never take aciphex again that medicine was the devil. Hope your problems are going better and let me know how aciphex is making you feel.

Q: Aciphex, Paxil, Lorazepam. How can I stop?
I was having really bad stomach problems after eating foods and I was working 7 days a week (my own fault). So, I went to see a doctor and he gave me aciphex and paxil. Then I went to a gastrologist who did a endoscopy and found nothing and gave me lorazepam to sleep through the night. Now, I feel good but when is a good time to ask the doctor to take me off the medication. I only work 5 days a week now and am eating healthier and exercising everyday. Thank you for your help.
my friend said that it could be my gallbladder because after eating foods I had stomach pain and I couldn’t sleep the whole night. Could Paxil be used to keep the GI and stomic from overracting?

I’ve been taking it since November 16. I’m 25 years old. I don’t have any panic or anxiety attacks.

A: You can safely discontinue Aciphex on our own, and if your stomach continues to feel fine, then you can stay off of it. As far as the Paxil, you’ll have to eliminate that gradually. It sounds like you could ask him/her any time how to safely discontinue the Paxil.

Congratulations on getting your health back!

Good luck.

Q: Question about Kristalose and question about Aciphex?
My G.I. doctor that I just met today, who my physician refered me to, prescribed me with Aciphex to take for nausea, but as I’ve read, it does not sound like an anti-nausea medication at all, and even says side effects may include nausea and vomiting, so why the hell would he give me that for nausea. Also, he gave me Kristalose to take for constipation, and when I heard a kristalose I hear the word “lactose” too much, and I’m lactose intolerant which I didn’t even get a chance to tell the G.I. Does Kristalose have lactose in it?? Because I can’t have any lactose products without feeling sick

A: It depends on what the cause of the nausea is and how it is presented. Some people have a issue especially at night. Lying down can create a situation where stomach acid can back up and cause a slight vomiting. In this case, if it is a reflux condition causing it then the Aciphex would be right. And yes kristalose should not be used by someone with a low or no lactose diet. But if you didn’t tell him then he wouldn’t know this. Call the office and tell the nurse your issue with it. They will prescribe another drug. We can only deal with what we know.

Q: Has anyone tried nexium or equivant medication with alcohol to decrease hangovers or excess of alcohol???
I work in a cardiology office as a RN, and one of the nexium pharmaceutical reps told me that nexium, or equivants such as protonix, prilosec or prilosec OTC, or aciphex (proton pump inhibitor based drugs used for heart burn or acid reflux disease, can decrease hangovers in the am, when taken the night before and in the am when waking up. I discovered that nexium or eqivalent works even to decrease the negative side effects of alcohol with one drink too many. Has anyone ever noted this before and if so, how does it work??? Would love to hear from people if this has worked for them and better if they know why. Prilosec OTC worked for me in the past as well, and without prescription.

A: no never. for a hangover just drink pedilite and you will be fine in 30 minutes guaranteed.

Q: Stomach Medication Question?
Is it ok to take Pepcid and Aciphex?

A: I can find no interactions between these two, using drugs.com interactions checker. Make a quick call to your pharmacists and ask he/she and it will relieve your mind.

Q: Should I try Aciphex?!?
I am tired of the medications I’m taking for GERD not working. My body weight is ideal. I eat right (am avoiding all the “trigger” foods). And I’m even sleeping with my bed upright. I’m going to try aciphex now. PLEASE work!! I was wondering, a poster said that it increased his/her blood pressure. Is this really a side effect? Also, has aciphex really saved people who have it bad? I already looked at their site, but I want to know from real people who tried it. And…last but not least, how should it be taken? Before eating? I will probably be taking it twice a day since that’s how often I took the other medications I tried. So should I take it before breakfast and before dinner? Thanks in advance, friendlygal

A: I found this statement on the GERD forum: “I have been suffering from reflux for 10 years, have tried all prescription drugs thru’ various doctors. None has helped, instead it has given me a hiatal hernia which is one of the side efects from all acid blockers that doctors prescribe. Another thing about the blockers is that it actually does reduce acid production and damages your digestion. Enzymes made me feel better. I have been taking Aloe Vera gel twice a day which also helps. I am talking to a kinesiologist to see if he can set my hiatal hernia. I have not seen him yet. Like Todg protiens help me, but I only take natural products only, no meats.

There are many articles on reflux on this site also try the following ones.

I do know that I have been experiencing more gas lately, not a whole lot but more than I usually do, and more burping, and I have acid reflux in which the doc has diven me aciphex medication for. Could this have anything to do with my bloated stomach? Thanks!

A: yes! most definitely constapation or gas can make you feel 3 times the size. i know thats how i feel anyways.hope i helped
