Q: dose Lamotrigine drug affect side effect or it is good to take as anti-depressed medicine?
Iam using Lamotrigine and Duloxetine HCL tablets for depression,is this drug can really cure my depression and my mood developement?pls advice me in details.
which medicine can cure my depression fast?
Does this medicine can cure depression so fast without any side effect?

A: Anti depressants give you a bit of a break whilst your depression passes. This can take a very long time. To maximise the benefits of this rest period you should try to get to the bottom of the cause of your depression and try lots of relaxation methods. Anxiety is normally caused by worrying about the future, and the future only exists in your head. Try to spend more time concentrating on what you are doing now and the mind will be to busy to waste time thinking up different futures, all ore none of which may or may not happen.

Q: Does anyone have any information about the prescription drug LAMOTRIGINE?

A: Good day!

Lamotrigine is used for:

Treating certain types of seizures. It may be used alone or with other medicines. It may also be used to delay the occurrence of mood problems in certain patients with bipolar disorder. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Lamotrigine is an anticonvulsant. Exactly how it works is not known.

Q: Is taking Lamotrigine(anti-epilepsy drug), safe for pregnant women?
This one was prescribed by my neurologist, but I still have seizures one in a while.

A: Lamotrigine may cause a higher risk of cleft palates in babies whose moms take it during pregnancy. Unfortunately, there is no anti-epiliepsy drug that has been found to be safe during pregnancy. But seizures can be worse than the side effects. Work with your neurologist to find a balance between side effects for your baby and the need to reduce seizures. If you don’t have seizures a lot, the doc may recommend going without meds while you are pregnant if you can.

Q: Who would be given the drug “lamotrigine”?

A: Lamotrigine is licensed as an anti-convulsant, but can be used off-license for the treatment of unipolar depression and bi-polar disorder.

Q: Shelf life of the drug Lamictal (Lamotrigine)?
Hi. I took a small dose of Lamictal for a period of time as a mood stabilizer. I discontinued because of “foggy” feelings and general ickyness. But after time, it’s become evident that I need to be “stabilized” again.
I have moved since this time, but still have a large quantity of the pills. They are a year old. I’m well aware of the titration thing and know my correct dosage.
Until I get into the doctor (a month) I would like to start back on the med.
Are they still good after a year? I can’t find the info anywhere!
I would just break the pills for 25, then 50, then 100. The stuff does not float my boat at all, lol!! But the folks around me would be happier ;p

A: yeah, my bottle of it says ‘use before 3/22/09′[i got it march 22nd...thats why it says it] and the pill bottle you have should of said that

see when i got on it, i was on the sample packet that had 5 weeks worth of pills….1st 2 weeks were 25mg, the next 2 weeks was 50, then the last week was 100mg. that last for a year, last month i went up to 150…
but when you see the doc, talk about the packet that starts off small. it’s pretty bad to take it right off the bat at 100mg [which is the lowest dosage of it]

so if i were you, i’d wait….but whatever floats your boat

Q: Epileptics taking lamotrigine – how do you feel if you run out of it temporarily?
I have found that whenever I run out of lamotrigine (because my prescription can’t be filled quickly enough) I suffer from the following symptoms: extreme anxiety, insomnia, loss of appetite and greatly increased seizures.

I didn’t have these symptoms before I started taking the drug, so what is it doing to me? I know that lamotrigine is given to people with bipolar or similar disorders, but I don’t have any of these.

A: I thought my son, was cured of epilepsy, and whine him of lamotrigine, at first his behavior improved, then he got worse again, very obsessive. Now the fits are back.

You may like to try another medication, or get the prescription filled a week before it runs out, if you can. When he was still having fits, it would only take 48 hrs after missing a dose for him to have fits again.

If you try another medication, whine yourself off really slow, by like 1/4 of a pill every two weeks, so your body doesn’t feel the effect. I’m not sure what else you can try as my son has been on this medication for 5 years. I found that it changed him, and the one previous to him starting lamotrigrine made his behavior really bad.

There is an alternative to anti- fit medication, its a diet which is high in fat and protein

Q: lamotrigine and weight loss in children is it a known side effect?
My daughter started taking lamotrigine as well as the exsisting epilim when she was 8 and her dose was doubled when she was 9. On the first dose her weight stayed level and now increased dose co-incides with weight loss she now weighs the same as she did when 7, 3 years ago. The information suggests the drug not suitable for under 12s but no reference is made to weight loss.

A: Anorexia is an infrequent side effect. After researching the effects in children, I would not let my child take it. There are other drugs for the same purpose.

Q: What does Lamotrigine Lamictal made you feel ?
My doctor had prescribed for me Lamotigine Lamictal , and I want to know only from people who had been on it , how did it make them feel ?
And is it a good drug Yes/No ?

P.S : anti.Depressent didnt work with me hoping this would !

A: i am on this medication and it doesn’t really make me feel up or down….am a bit blank at times but i take it at night……..be really careful….if you notice a rash notify your dr immediately.

Q: what are your experiences with Lamotrigine?
Just wondering if taking Lamotrigine worked for you, how you felt before & after taking it, and what you are diagnosed with.

plz no answers saying drugs are just a scam for doctors to make money, blah blah. this is a serious, important question and i am just curious about how it has worked for other people since i am going to begin taking it next week.
THANKS!

A: I first started taking Lamotrigine after trying many unsuccessful treatments of anti-depressants. I was classified as having treatment-resistant depression. I didn’t think things would ever get better or that anything could work. My doctor decided to try Lamictal (lamotrigine). To my shock and surprise, things gradually didn’t seem so bad anymore. I was in a good mood, the things that used to upset me didn’t, and I finally felt like I was experiencing life. It was like someone lifted this black veil from my eyes that I didn’t even realize was there.

I was later diagnosed with Epilepsy after I started having seizures. My neurologist increased the Lamictal because it’s an anti-epileptic and of course I was already on it for the mood disorder. However, once the dose got to therapeutic range for seizures, I was tired, lethargic, and couldn’t function. My neurologist told me the other epilepsy medications were even worse in symptoms, and told me to stay on it. However, at such a high dose, lamotrigine was wrecking my life. So, I stopped going to the neurologist and reduced my dosage slowly. It was a dramtic improvement.

I’m sure you can see why I’m a fan of this medication. The side effects are usually milder than most antidepressants and the only thing I experienced was a lot of dry mouth. I know for bipolar I, Lamitcal is often ineffective alone. However, I know many people who have had success with Bipolar II and this med… and of course, for treatment-resistant depression.

Q: Sorry, meant to ask if there is a authorized GENERIC manufacturer of lamotrigine?
An authorized generic is chemically identical to a particular brand-name drug, but the brand-name manufacturer authorizes it to be marketed in a generic version.

A: I’ve never been prescribed Lamotrigine, nor do I know anyone who has, so all I could do was google the information; take the following for what it’s worth.

At http://bipolar-disorder.emedtv.com/lamotrigine/lamotrigine.html# the question is asked “Is there a generic version of Lamotrigine?” Following the link provided ( http://epilepsy.emedtv.com/lamictal/generic-lamictal.html ), we learn that there are at least five such manufacturers: Apotex Corporation, Mylan Pharmaceuticals, Roxane Laboratories Inc., Sandoz, and Teva Pharmaceuticals. I hope this is the info you were seeking.

Q: Information on Lamotrigine?
Hay, my mother is has just recently been diagnosed with epilepsy and put on the drug Lamotrigine. First off, although I like to believe the doters there is no concrete evidence that she is really having epilepsy. Secondly, she does not have bipolar. She has been on antidepressants before but it was nothing serious. Thirdly, she is having some adverse affects from the drug. She has this headache that is about a 9 (coming from a woman who has given birth twice and has had multiple back surgeries, a 9 is really high) but goes to around a 7 on average, with 6 being the lowest it has gotten in two weeks. She also has the composure of a drunk woman. She slurs her words and can barely walk a straight line. She’s also developed mood swings when she didn’t have them before. She wants to stop taking it, would that be a good thing or not. I don’t really know what could happen if she just stops taking them. She’s on 150mg two time a day. Any information would help, or even a good place to find information.

Please and thank you,
Adam T

A: One of you really should discuss this with her doctor or maybe even try for a second opinion.

Q: can i take lamotrigine with fertility drugs if i get pregnant does folic acid slow down lamotrigine?

A: I agree, but often your local Pharmacist will have a better idea of what drugs interfere with other drugs than a Physician will.

I did find the page linked below though, with this information on it:
“Having epilepsy and taking anti-epileptic drugs does not prevent a woman from receiving fertility treatment. A few women may experience a small increase in the number of seizures when taking certain hormone-based fertility drugs.”

The same page suggested that Folic acid can interfere with the effectiveness of phenytoin and primidone but lamotrigine wasn’t mentioned.

Hope that helps!

Q: Question for people taking lamictal/lamotrigine?
Does anyone take this drug once a day? My doctor has started me on it and he is increasing the dose too quickly for my comfort and because I’m sectioned under the mental health act I feel that he won’t listen to me.

He has started me on 50mg twice a day and I’m thinking of only taking 50mg nightly. Does anyone else only take this drug at night?

A: i take mine once a day in the mornings usually. i started out on 25mg a day, right now taking 100mg a day. if you’re not comfortable with how fast he’s increasing your dosage, talk to him about it and if he doesn’t listen, find another doctor who will listen.

Q: Has anyone ever had a bad reaction to the generic brand of Lamictal?
I take Lamictal for seizures. I have medicaid and I was on the brand name for 2 months. After that, medicaid will no longer cover the brand name drug, so now i take the generic Lamotrigine. Has anyone ever had any reactions to the generic, such as upset stomach. I have been having issues with it, and I have a call into the doctor to see if they can get authorization to switch me back to the brand name, i was just wondering if this has ever happened to anyone else?
Yeah I always eat something when I take it.

A: From what I’ve read upset stomach is a common side effect. They say to take it with food. Have you been eating something when you take it? Most web sites say ” If you experience persistent upset stomach, vomiting, or loss of appetite contact your doctor immediately”. Depending on the price, he might prescribe you something else all together.

Q: For people on lamotrigine?
Have you noticed any change in your weight since taking lamotrigine? I’ve just started taking it for bi-polar and I’m scared of weight increase but I was told it was unlikely on this drug. Anyone had any experience?

A: Lamotrigine is weight-neutral, which means, it doesn’t cause weight gain.

Don’t worry. You won’t gain weight on it. It’s a good med.
