Q: What is the difference between bupropion and bupropion sr?
I was on bupropion 100 mg/twice daily, but the doctor changed me to bupropion SR 150/twice daily. The bupropion worked great, Im just wondering if there is a difference in the meds with the “SR” added. Different side affects? or anything like that
Also, will it affect me differently that just plain bupropion?
A: SR stands for “slow release” or “sustained release”. This means the medicine enter system slower and over longer period of time compared to regular form. It is the same medicine, so side effects would be the same or maybe little less due to timed release of medicine. It just works longer and without the ups and downs in the blood.Take care!
It should not affect you much differently, in fact it is easier on body and mind since med. is released over time, not all at once.
One not for SR version: NEVER BREAK OR CHEW THESE TABLETS OR IT COULD RESULT IN OVERDOSE>
This link has some good info.
Take care!

Q: How long did it take for bupropion sr to start working?
I started taking wellbutrin sr (bupropion sr) to heighten my sex drive. How long does it take for it to start working? How long does it take for the side affects to wear off (agitation, nausea…etc)?
A: Most anti-depressants actually decrease your sex drive, so I’m surprised you would take one to increase it. But then well-butrin is different than other anti-depressants so I guess it’s possible it can have the opposite affect. You should start feeling a difference after 2 or 3 weeks, although it could be up to 6 weeks. Good Luck.
Q: 3 weeks on Bupropion SR and have joint pain?
I am taking Bupropion Sr 150 mg twice a day. I was wondering when and if the side effects go away. I have insomnia, anxiety, carb cravings and now joint pain. The itching went away! I am thinking that after 3 weeks I should gradually be feeling better. I have to take Ambien CR to sleep even a little. Pretty down in the dumps yet too! Oh, I wanted this to work so bad!
A: I know this is a depression medication, but why specifically did your doctor prescribe it? It has been know to help people with depression who also want to quit smoking, but it is not the only depression medication to help with that. These medications take time to get into your system and start working effectively, but if your medication is causing intolerable side effects, then you should call your doctor and discuss your concerns with him/her immediately. There are so many other medications out there that can help you get through depression. The key here is to be open and honest with your doctor about everything you are feeling (physically and mentally) including the difficulty with sleep and if you are not comfortable doing so with your current doctor then consider seeing another doctor.
A tale of two people:
Person A: Has been taking a medication for several years even though it really doesn’t help her simply because she’s afraid to try something new. She continues to trudge though life in disappointment and dispair.
Person B: Struggled through the side effects of many medications over the course of 6 years before being rediagnosed and finally finding the right medication. She is still trying to convince Person A that life can be better on the right medication.
Depression is a tough thing to deal with but the right medication can really make a difference combined with individual or group therapy. Please talk to your doctor about your concerns. And don’t give up. Things will get better.
Q: what will happen if you take bupropion sr but also have an eating dissorder?
Im recently taking bupropion but i also somewhat have an eating dissorder. Will anything serious happen to me?
A: yes you may put on weight…
Q: I have dystimia (cronic depression) and anxiety. I am taking bupropion SR. Is it good? What other things can I
I have dystimia (cronic depression) and anxiety. I am taking bupropion SR. Is it good? What other things can I do to get better? Please tell me things that I can do in my home. Thank you for your help.
A: I know some people feel better on Buproprion (Wellbutrin), but I also know very many who don’t get better. I, for myself, did not get better on it, and I gave it enough time, and I hated how jittery it made me feel. My depression needs help with Serotonin, and to a lesser extent Neuropineprine. That is why an SSRI or an SSNRI help me far better than Wellbutrin. If you’ve been on Wellbutrin for abot six weeks, and noticed no improvement, talk to your doctor about other options. SSRIs include prozac, zoloft, paxil, celexa, and (my favorite with least side effects) lexapro. SSNRIs include effexor and cymbalta.
Otherwise, exercise, eat healthy, avoid by all means toxic relationships and hang out with people who make you feel good, try and be grateful when you have a good thing going, do not get angry with yourself if you fall behind, re-connect or nurture your faith, do not drink alcohol, use illegal drugs, or even sleeping pills (those last three undermine anti-depressants).
Things do get better, don’t give up hope.
Q: What are the long term side effects of taking Bupropion sr or Wellbutrin sr?
I am taking Wellbutrin and was wondering what the long term side effects of the drug can be.
A: none that I’m aware of
Q: can anyone tell me the difference between wellbutrinxl & bupropion sr?
my insurance is moving the xl from tier 2 to tier 3,meaning a higher co-pay.need to know if they have the same results.
A: Bupropion is the generic name for Wellbutrin. Wellbutrin XL is a higher strength than Wellbutrin SR. I take 2 Wellbutrin SR per day or 1 Wellbutrin XL once a day. Have your Dr. write the Rx for the tier 2 form.
Q: Has anyone tried to quit smoking with the use of Bupropion SR?
If so,Please tell me what your experiance with this drug was or is.
Thanks!
A: I took Wellbutrin several years ago for depression and, as a side effect, I quit smoking…unintentionally! I would not recommend this drug for the sole purpose of smoking cessation…overuse and abrupt cessation of this drug has been linked to seizures. If you’re looking to stop smoking, try Chantix…I took it for 1 month:stopped smoking by week 3 and have been smoke free since…about 10 months now. And it only required 1 month of medication.
Good luck!
Q: What is the best time of day to take my bupropion sr 100mg medicine?
A: The most important thing here is to be consistent with the time you take the drug. The best or optimal time of day for you to take it, depends on you and your physical responses to the medication. For example, if you experience any negative side effects that cause you issues or complications when carrying out the functions of your day to day routine, then I would suggest taking the drug at dinner time. However, if you have no negative side effects, then I would suggest taking it in the morning as to ensure that the peak effect occurs during your working day, which will result in giving you a better therapeutic effect.
Q: Has anyone tried generic bupropion SR?
I’m being swithced from WellbutrinXL to generic bupropion SR. I’ve read a forum on the internet where people hate it, and say it doesn’t work like Wellbutrin. Has anyone had a good experience with the generic?
A: Watson generic buproprion SR is made by the same company that makes Wellbutrin.
Some generics are actually made by the same company as the brand name.
Q: Has anyone switched from bupropion xl to bupropion sr?
did you notice any difference?
A: Yes, I have taken both. I did not notice a difference. However, I will say that by taking the SR, the chances of a seizure are reduced if one is at all worried about this. I was not. I’m just saying if you happen to have a history of seizure problems, then the SR would be a better choice. I hope this is info is helpful.
Q: does anyone know the proper dosage for bupropion Sr?
It’s for quitting smoking.
A: I’m not sure but you might want to try WebMD.com, if that doesn’t help call a doc! Might even try a local urgent care clinic.
Q: I wanted to know what are the side effects of bupropion SR for a 7lbs. dog?
Just wanted to know in an emergency on what to do
A: Had to look it up–
http://www.rxlist.com/cgi/generic/wellbutrin_sr_od.htm

It would be worse in a dog than a human due to the weight difference.
Q: overdose on bupropion sr 100mg?
what will overdosing on bupropion sr 100mg do?
What if they took like 14 or 15?
